Viatris was created in November 2020 by combining Upjohn, a Pfizer subsidiary specializing in off-patent drugs, with Mylan, a global generic and specialty drug maker. The combination made Viatris one of the largest generic drug manufacturers in the world, serving over 165 countries. Generics (commoditized and complex) and biosimilars make up roughly 40% of total sales; the other 60% comes from legacy products including Lipitor, Norvasc, Lyrica, and Viagra.
